Our class wants to help the bees, so we turn a corner of the playground into a garden. We pull out the weeds, loosen the soil, and plant lavender and sunflowers.
At first, nothing happens. Then one small bee arrives. It lands on a purple flower, rests for a moment, and flies away. The next day there are three.
By June, the garden hums. Our teacher says bees are in trouble because they have fewer places to find food. A small corner can still matter. We sit quietly and watch them work.
One afternoon, a younger child asks if she can help water the plants. We give her the blue can. The garden is not ours alone anymore.
