At the park, Leo noticed something strange. His shadow did not copy him. When Leo jumped, the shadow sat down. When Leo waved, it folded its arms.

"Are you tired?" Leo asked. The shadow pointed toward the trees. Leo followed it past the swings and the fountain. There, under a bench, the shadow curled up like a sleepy cat.
“你累了吗？”利奥问。影子朝树林那边指了指。利奥跟着它走过秋千和喷泉。在一张长椅下面，影子蜷成一团，像一只困倦的猫。
Leo sat beside his shadow. "You can rest," he said. "I will wait." The shadow made a small shape like a heart on the path. Then it pointed to a row of dark trees.
利奥在影子旁边坐下。“你可以休息。”他说，“我会等你。”影子在小路上摆出一个小小的爱心形状，然后指向一排幽暗的树。
Leo walked into the trees, and the shadow slid along beside him. They found a lost red ball, a feather, and a gate that squeaked. At the gate, the shadow stopped and would not move.
利奥走进树林，影子也贴着他滑行。他们找到了一只丢失的红球、一根羽毛，还有一扇吱呀作响的门。到了门前，影子停了下来，再也不肯往前走。
Beyond the gate was a garden Leo had never seen. The shadow ran to a stone wall and lay in the last warm light. Slowly, it stretched back to Leo's feet.
门后是一座利奥从没见过的小花园。影子跑到一堵石墙边，躺在最后一片温暖的光里。慢慢地，它又伸回到利奥的脚边。
"You were looking for home," Leo said. The shadow nodded. When Leo walked back through the gate, his shadow copied every step again. At dinner, Leo told his mother about the garden, and she said, "Everyone needs a quiet place to rest."
“你是在找家呀。”利奥说。影子点了点头。当利奥穿过门往回走时，他的影子又跟着他走好每一步。吃晚饭时，利奥把花园的事告诉了妈妈，妈妈说：“每个人都需要一个安静的地方休息。”
