Ada found a folded paper under the park bench. It was soft at the edges and smelled of pine. When she opened it, she saw a hand-drawn map with three bright stars.
One star marked the fountain. Another pointed to the tall slide. The third star sat beside a drawing of a crooked tree. At the bottom, someone had written: 'For the next explorer.'
Ada looked around. The park was almost empty. A gray pigeon pecked near the fountain. She decided to follow the map, one star at a time.
At the fountain, Ada found a blue stone. A red ribbon hung from the slide. The third star led to a crooked tree, where a tin box waited.
Inside were three buttons, a pencil, and a note. 'You found my treasures,' it said. 'Add something small and hide the box again.' Ada chose a marble from her pocket.
As she closed the lid, a boy stepped out from behind the tree. 'I made that map,' he said. 'I was afraid nobody would play.' Ada held up the marble.
The boy's name was Ben. He had drawn the map during summer vacation, but no one had found it until now. 'I thought it was a silly game,' he said.
Ada shook her head. 'It is the best game in the park.' They hid the box again and drew a new map with four stars instead of three.
Before they left, Ben folded the map and placed it under the same bench. 'Someone else will find it.' Ada smiled. The park felt larger now, full of hidden paths.
