Every morning, an orange cat waited at the bus stop. When the doors opened, it walked aboard as if it owned the bus. The driver, Mr. Park, never seemed surprised.
每天早上，一只橘猫都会在公交站等着。车门一开，它就走上车，好像公交车是它的一样。司机朴先生似乎从来不觉得奇怪。
The cat always sat beside an old woman with a green shopping bag. At the third stop, it jumped down and disappeared. Nia wondered where it spent all day.
这只猫总是坐在一位提着绿色购物袋的老奶奶旁边。到了第三站，它就跳下车，消失不见。妮娅想知道它一整天都在哪里。
One rainy morning, Nia followed the cat. It trotted past the bakery, turned left at the flower shop, and stopped before a small blue door.

Nia knocked. A boy about her age opened the door. Behind him, shelves of books rose to the ceiling. The orange cat was already curled on a cushion.

'This is Marmalade,' the boy said. 'He visits our reading room every day. Children read to him, and he never interrupts.' Nia laughed. The cat blinked slowly, as if it agreed.

The old woman from the bus appeared with a plate of biscuits. 'Marmalade started coming when my grandson opened this room,' she said. 'Now he has more friends than I do.'

Nia began visiting the reading room after school. She read funny stories to Marmalade. The cat purred loudly at the funny parts and slept through the sad ones.
妮娅放学后开始去阅读室。她给橘子酱读有趣的故事。读到有趣的地方，猫就大声打呼噜；读到伤心的地方，它就睡着了。
One afternoon, Mr. Park came in holding a small sign. 'The bus company approved a new stop here,' he said. 'Marmalade has been riding for free for too long.'
一天下午，朴先生拿着一块小牌子走了进来。“公交公司同意在这里设一个新站，”他说，“橘子酱免费坐车太久了。”
Everyone cheered. Nia painted a cat on the sign. Now, when the bus stops at the blue door, Marmalade steps off with his tail high, ready for another day of stories.
