On Monday morning, Mia pulled on her red gloves and ran to the school playground. The snow was fresh, and she built a rabbit with pebble eyes and a twig smile.

When the bell rang, she clapped her hands and hurried inside. Near the door, she stopped. Her right glove was warm and snug, but her left hand was bare. The red glove was gone.

Mia and her friend Leo searched the playground. They looked under the slide and behind the gate. Then Leo pointed to a line of small holes in the snow. The holes led past the fence and stopped beside an old box.

Mia knelt down. Inside the box, a tiny brown puppy lay curled around something red. It was her glove. The puppy looked up and gave a weak wag. Mia did not take the glove away. Instead, she ran to find the school caretaker.

The caretaker brought a soft blanket and warm water for the puppy. Its owner, an elderly neighbor, came soon after. She thanked Mia and returned the red glove. The puppy licked Mia's fingers before it left.

After school, Mia walked home with both gloves on. The left one was a little damp, but she did not mind. She told her mother about the puppy and the box. Her mother smiled and said, "You found more than a glove today."
