Pip was not a beautiful robot. Its left wheel wobbled, its arm was a ruler and two rubber bands, and its voice sounded like a cough. But on the practice floor, it could follow a black line, avoid an obstacle, and place a block inside a marked circle. Maya had built it from parts the club had thrown away.

Leo joined her, holding the rejected claw in his hands.
